Jun Sang Han, tenor

Jun-Sang Han, born in Seoul/South Korea, studied singing at Yonsei University in Seoul as well as Opera and Singing at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg under Renate Behle. With the start of the 2006/07 season he became a member of the International Opera Studio at Hamburgische Staatsoper.

The tenor won the 1st prize and the 2nd audience award at the International Robert Stolz Singing Competition for Viennese Operetta in 2006. In a production of Pierre et Luce/Totentanz/S.C.H.A.S. by the International Opera Studio he sang the role of Pierre, whereas in La Calisto he performed the part of Pane. Furthermore, he made his debut of the Singer in Rosenkavalier under the baton of Simone Young.

At the beginning season 2008/09 Jun-Sang Han joined the ensemble of Hamburgische Staatsoper with a smooth build-up of his career towards bigger roles. Thus, he performed the roles of Remendado (Carmen), Pang (Turandot) as well as Death in Venice, Salome and Attila. In a new production of Die lustige Witwe he sang the part of Roussillon. Other main roles of his sung repertory include Fenton (Falstaff) and Steuermann (The flying Dutchman) which he also performed at Edinburgh Festival.

In the season of 2009/10 he made his debut as Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore and as Beppe/Arlecchino in Cavalleria rusticana/I Pagliacci and performed as Lord Arturo Bucklaw in a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor. He also appeared in the field of concert with Bayerische Staatsphilharmonie/Bamberger Symphoniker performing Arnold Schönberg’s chamber music adaption of Mahler’s Lied von der Erde.

The season 2010/11 will be marked by his debut of Ferrando/ Così fan tutte and by Tamino/DieZauberflöte at Hamburgische Staatsoper. Furthermore, he will perform Schubert’s Mass in E flat with Beethoven Orchester Bonn.
